Yes, you can submit an application for a new card a few weeks prior to its expiration to prevent any interruption, particularly if you have upcoming travel plans. The new card will be valid for two years starting from the expiration date of the old card.
You can renew your card any time. Your new card will be valid for two years from the date you renew.
You do not need to provide any additional documentation when you are renewing your card.
