Founded by Carers, to Empower People with Disabilities

The National Disability Card was launched in 2019. Founded by carers who understand the challenges of living with a disability, through years of experience caring for a family member with cystic fibrosis. We are a social enterprise for good based in Suffolk, UK. All our cards are printed in-house at our secure printing facility.

The National Disability and Carers Card Scheme

“Through caring for a family member with cystic fibrosis, we saw that our family member regularly encountered frustrating situations in her day to day life. Because her condition is a hidden disability, she wasn’t always offered assistance when she needed it, and had no way to show others that she needed special access or understanding at venues and events, or while travelling. We launched the National Disability Card in 2019 to give others in her position an easy way to identify themselves and get the help they need when they need it.”

Social Enterprise for Good

As a social enterprise for good, our mission and the services we offer are aligned with a public benefit: opening doors and widening opportunities for disabled people and carers.

Diversity and Inclusion

At least 50% of our workforce are people with disabilities. We think differently about disability and take action to improve how we recruit, retain and develop disabled employees. Our mission is to ensure that disabled people have the opportunities to fulfill their potential and realise their aspirations.

Disability Confident Committed

Through this recognised government scheme, we’ve committed to ensure our recruitment process is inclusive and accessible, and to support employees who acquire a disability or health condition to stay in work. We're looking forward to continuing our efforts to better the lives of disabled people - among both card holders and employees.

Environmentally conscious

Our offices and manufacturing facilities are powered by 100% renewable energy, including solar, wind and hydro sources. We recycle waste and offer green pension opportunities to our employees to help protect the planet.

Supporting carers in the workplace

Our Carers Policy addresses the needs of employees with caring responsibilities, giving them the right to request flexible working. This policy emphasises the benefits of flexible working arrangements, balancing work and personal life and employment breaks.

Armed Forces Covenant

Armed Forces Veterans can experience unique challenges after leaving the Armed Forces - sometimes including physical disabilities or mental health struggles as a result of their service. In connection with our pledge of support, we will be working on practical ways to support the Armed Forces veterans and reservists among our employees.

Riding for the Disabled

We are proud to support our local branch of Riding for the Disabled (RDA). RDA enriches lives through riding and carriage driving lessons for disabled people, supported by an incredible team of volunteers. Our leadership team recently toured their new facility in Woodbridge, meeting staff as well as some of the horses.

Naidex

We successfully exhibited at Naidex on 20th and 21st March 2024, after a successful show in 2022. We met many card holders and partners again this year, and printed successful applicants' cards onsite. We look forward to seeing you again at a future show.

Wear Yellow Day: Cystic Fibrosis Awareness

We wore yellow on Friday 21st June 2024 to help raise awareness of cystic fibrosis. Our founding team has experience of caring for a family member with cystic fibrosis, so this cause is close to our heart.

World Mental Health Day 2023

Mental health challenges can be as disruptive to everyday life as physical conditions - and can be less easily understood by others as they are not visible. To help raise awareness and ease the difficulties of those living with, or caring for someone with, a hidden disability, we gave away a limited number of Verified Invisible Disability and carer-themed lanyards to card holders.
